What is a full athletic scholarship worth these days?

It depends. At an in-state, public school in 2008, the NCAA estimates the average yearly value of a full scholarship at just under $14,000. For an out-of-state public institution, the average cost is approximately $24,000 per year. Full scholarships at private schools average slightly more than $32,000. But the real value of athletic scholarships is intangible. Without them, many student athletes would be unable to pursue their athletic and academic dreams.

When should a student register with the NCAA Eligibility Center?

Students should register with the Eligibility Center at the beginning of their junior year in high school. At the end of the student's junior year, a transcript, which includes six semesters of grades, should be sent to the Eligibility Center from the high school. Additionally, students should have their SAT or ACT scores forwarded directly to the Eligibility Center (by using code "9999") whenever they take the exam.

Does the NCAA award athletic scholarships?

Individual schools award athletic scholarships, not the NCAA. Only Division I and II schools offer athletic scholarships. NCAA members provide more than $2 billion in athletics scholarships annually.

Concussion prevention and treatment-NCAA.org

Estimates suggest that 1.6-1.8 million concussions occur from participation in sports- and recreation-related activities every year. These injuries are often difficult to detect, with athletes often underreporting an injury, minimizing its importance or not recognizing that an injury has occurred. There are potentially serious complications of concussions. The following NCAA video explains the impact concussions play within sports. It is better to miss one game than the whole season.

Scholarship Opportunities
NAIA institutions award $450 million annually to eligible student-athletes.

Each school determines how much aid it awards to an individual student-athlete. Scholarships, grants-in-aid or student loans are controlled by each institution through the same committee that handles all student loans and scholarships.

For girls, an athletic scholarship is most elusive in volleyball, according to a Columbus (Oh) Post Dispatch analysis of data from the NCAA and National Federation of State High School Associations. (The study did not include NAIA or JuCO Opportunities)

About 115,500 high-school senior girls played volleyball in the U.S. during the 2008-09 school year, and there were about 4,700 full or partial athletic scholarships available in that sport.

Which is why it is so critical to begin exposing your student-athlete to all of the potential opportunites available as earlty as 9th Grade - ASD can help expose your duaghter to College Volleyball Coaces and Programs all across the US.

Is Your Student-Athlete Ready for 9th Grade?

The NCAA considers freshmen in High School “prospective Student-Athletes”.

The NCAA has published very specific guidelines regarding core course curriculum and GPA attainment beginning freshman year and continuing through High School graduation.

Additionally, the competition for athletic scholarships will continue to be intense, due to the increasing number of high school student-athletes and overall high school graduates which, according to the US Department of Education, will peak in the 2014-2015 academic year.
